Employee Job Description – Communication
Position: Director of Communications
Status: Part Time, 18-20 hours per week
Direct Supervisor: Business Manager
Indirectly Reports to: Lead Pastor and SPRC
Qualifications:
• Strong Christian attitude
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Proficiency in Word and Publisher
• Ability to work with a diverse number of people, including the congregation, other church staff, and
volunteers
• Possess strong computer skills, including MS Office products, Internet, email, and computer networks
• Self-directed and able to work independently as well as delegate to other staff members
• Post-secondary education with experience in communications or related fields
Job Responsibilities:
Overall responsibility is the coordination, production and approval of all church communication to insure
a unified and branded look. Must be able to collect information needed and organize in a logical, pleasing
manner in both written and Web communications, showing creativity in design to ensure church activities
are actively promoted to the congregation and community.
General:
• Comply with policies of West Des Moines United Methodist Church, the Iowa Annual Conference of
the United Methodist Church, and the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church
• Establish regular office hours and meet established deadlines
• Work area should be organized so a substitute employee could perform required duties
• Respond promptly to communications through personal interaction, email, and telephone
• Attend staff meetings
• Strive to create a welcoming environment for all
• Other tasks as assigned by the Business Manager
