 Staff Parish Relations

Mission Statement: 
Work with pastors to ensure a strong ministry in this congregation and oversee the work of the total staff. 

General Responsibilities of the work area:
  • To work with the district superintendent in an advisory capacity in matters pertaining to clergy leadership.
  • To discuss regularly with the pastors and staff the staffing/personnel conditions that affects the congregation's total ministry.
  • To counsel the pastors and staff about job descriptions, priorities, and expectations.
  • To communicate openly with the pastors, staff and congregation.
  • Annually evaluate the pastors and insure other staff are regularly evaluated.
  • To make recommendations concerning staff salary, travel, housing, benefits and other financial matters to the Finance Committee and the Church Conference.
  • To inspect the parsonage with the pastor and the trustees annually.
  • With the senior pastor, to make needed recommendations to the Church Council regarding policy and procedures for hiring, evaluating, promoting, retiring and dismissing staff members.
  • To support and encourage continuing education for the staff.
  • To seek to understand feelings and desires within the congregation about the staff's leadership and apponitment.
  • To be accountable to the Charge Conference.
     
    Specific Program Responsibilities:
  • Hire staff, not appointed by the Iowa Annual Conference.
  • Develop job descriptions.
  • Review staffing needs and work required.
  • Handle church personnel matters.
  • Develop personnel policy and present to Church Council for approval.
     
    Responsibilities of the Chairperson:
  • To be responsible for guiding the work of the committee throughout the year, planning agendas, and presiding at meetings.
  • To be available to the staff for council, and understanding, and support.
    Attend and report to Church Council meetings.
     
    Committee Members' Responsibilities:
  • Carry out the responsibilities of the committee.
  • Assist in hiring of staff and perform annual performance appraisals.
  • Respond to all personnel issues that arise.
